We are hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple engineering teams responsible for building main components of Avalara's tax technology platform. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to shape technical direction, improve engineering excellence, and provide services that power compliance solutions for global customers.
You will report to a Senior Director of Software Engineering and is fully remote – you can be located anywhere in Brazil. #LI-Remote
You will oversee engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining .NET-based microservices running on cloud infrastructure. Your daily will involve guiding engineers through all phases of the software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support. You will partner with Product Management, Architecture, Support, and other engineering leaders to ensure delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure solutions aligned with Avalara's strategic goals.
You will coach engineers and managers, ensure effective agile execution across squads, and improve code quality, automation, and system performance. Additionally, you'll contribute to roadmap planning, influence technology decisions, and help foster a high-trust, high-performance culture across the department.?
- Experience managing software engineering teams, including people leadership and career development.
- Experience delivering complex, cloud-native systems using agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
- Hands-on experience with .NET technologies and distributed microservices.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, cost efficiency).
- Define goals, and achieve results through collaboration.
- Excellent English skills– both verbal and written – to operate in a global, distributed environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Bonus if You Have:
- 1+ years of experience in the tax, finance, or compliance software domain.
- 2+ years of Experience managing or collaborating with geographically distributed teams.
- 2+ Years Experience with GenAI tools applied to software development or testing.
- Familiarity with secure development practices and SaaS performance optimization.
- Participation in building organizational change or technology modernization programs.
