Description
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-driven Finance Supervisor to join our team and support the financial health and operational efficiency of our freight forwarding business.
This position is suited for a professional with a good foundation in finance as well as an understanding of the freight forwarding or logistics sector. The Finance Supervisor will be overseeing all local finance activities, monitoring profitability, enforcing compliance with financial procedures, and ensuring smooth cross-functional collaboration.
Oversee timely and accurate customer invoicing, ensuring all services rendered are billed in line with contracts or agreed tariffs.
Supervise accounts receivable and follow up on overdue balances.
Coordinate with ZIM on credit control policies and implement local cash flow tracking and forecasting.
Monitor vendor invoices and accounts payable, validating alignment with agreed terms and preventing duplicate payments.
Ensure full compliance with ZIM financial procedures and internal control policies.
Monitor compliance with tax regulations
Liaise with external auditors and provide required documentation and clarifications during audits.
Ensure proper documentation and audit trails for all transactions and reconciliations.
Supervise the preparation and accuracy of the P&L statements, balance sheets, and monthly financial reports.
Analyze contribution margins by customer, trade lane, and service type (FCL, LCL, Air, etc.).
Reconcile revenue recognition with operational milestones and ensure proper accrual of costs.
Monitor gross profit trends, spot anomalies, and lead variance analysis.
Support monthly and quarterly closings, including journal entries, provisions, and reclassifications.
Ensure accurate cost matching (e.g., freight charges, terminal handling, customs clearance, warehousing).
Coordinate budgeting and forecasting cycles: support building the annual budget and rolling forecasts with business input.
Track actual performance against budget and flag deviations with root cause explanations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or equivalent
5+ years of experience in finance roles, preferably in freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, or transportation.
Good understanding of freight forwarding cost structures, incoterms, surcharges, and service types.
Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Familiarity with accounting standards and tax practices relevant to freight forwarding industry (advantage)
Strong Excel skills. Experience with financial systems (e.g., SAP, TMFF) is an advantage
