We're looking for an Director of Engineering in Brazil who will be both a hands-on engineer and a team leader, helping build a large-scale mobile app from the ground up using React Native, featuring many high-impact features. While the focus will be on mobile development, the role will also involve overseeing backend and frontend work, primarily from a leadership perspective.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the platform's architecture while regularly writing and reviewing code alongside your team. Beyond technical contributions, you’ll mentor engineers, support their growth, and foster a collaborative, supportive team environment. - Our team is around 60+ people, primarily based in Croatia, but also members in South America, Serbia, and the US; the product team mostly being in the US, and engineering in Croatia and Brazil

Requirements
- Min. 10 years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years building mobile applications, ideally with React Native
- 3+ years of experience leading teams or projects, with a strong focus on technical ownership and collaboration
- Should have full-stack development and experience with system architecture
- Solid understanding of frontend performance and responsive design
- Knowledge of BE processes and tools is a must, hands-on experience in BE development is a plus
- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken)
- Ideally based in Brazil, but open to candidates from other LATAM countries
Key Responsibilities
- Write high-quality, maintainable React Native code and define scalable architecture patterns for mobile and web platforms
- Participate in building platform architecture that involves scalability, mobile app deployment and managing different app versions, backend API etc.
- Balance regular coding responsibilities with technical leadership and people management
- Provide hands-on technical leadership for a large-scale, from-scratch build involving both mobile and web applications
- Lead one major technical stream (mobile or web), while overseeing multiple product teams responsible for areas such as analytics, reporting, communications, and mobile
- Ensure technical excellence through code reviews, mentoring, and continuous improvement of engineering practices
- Define and optimize the development workflow (e.g., CI/CD, testing strategy)
- Align technical execution with business goals and ensure engineers understand the broader product context
- Cross-functional collaboration (dev, design, product and QA) in order to deliver cohesive solutions
- Stay up-to-date with mobile and web development trends, bringing forward new ideas and improvements
- Foster a healthy, collaborative, and high-performing engineering team across multiple product streams
